COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course includes discussions, workshops, and lectures designed to discover, analyze, and evaluate all aspects of the theatre experience: scripts, acting, directing, staging, history, criticism, and theory.

To introduce the basic elements and principles of theatre.

To develop an appreciation of theatre performance as audience participants.

To involve the student in the theatrical experience through hands-on activities.

To encourage individual creativity and growth of artistic expression.

To develop aesthetic and historical awareness of the significance of theatre in society.

Special Remarks:

1.

Attendance: College policy states that students may be dropped from enrollment when absent 20% of the scheduled class meetings. If enrolled from the beginning of the term, 15 hours will usually constitute 20% of a four-credit semester course which meets five hours per week. Reinstatement procedures are described in the PCC catalog.

2.

Students will be given 3 excused absences for the duration of the course. After the third absence, students will have 3 points subtracted from the final grade for each day missed. Students will be able to "turn in" unused excused absences at the end of the term and be given 5 bonus points for each unused absence. Tardiness: A student who is late 3 times will be charged with one full absence.

3.

Theatre is a discipline. If you can not make a scheduled class please notify the instructor.

METHODS OF INSTRUCTION:

 

To be successful in this course, students are expected to participate in discussions, readings, in-class writing, and peer review activities. The instructor may assign point values to such activities.
