COURSE OUTLINE:

Course content and the progress of the student will be determined by how well the student performs during each lesson throughout the semester.  The speed at which the student advances will depend upon the amount of practice by the student during each week.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS:

The speed at which you advance will depend upon the amount of practice you give to your assignments.  To gain minimum progress requires at least 15 minutes a day of practice on scales and song.  To maximize your progress work at least 15-30 minutes on your voice and apply the breathing and articulation exercises to your everyday conversation.

Each lesson is 30 minutes in length for 1 credit and 1 hour for 2 credit so please come prepared mentally and physically.  Do a breath warm-up and some body warm ups before your lesson time.

Be punctual to your lessons.

Please bring your music to each class.

You will need to memorize your songs.

PERFORMANCE SEMINARS:  These will provide an opportunity to polish work in progress, improve performance skills, observe other performers and discuss aspects of music that affect us all.  This is not an appropriate place to try out a new piece that you have not previously worked on during lesson times.

MID SEMESTER RECITAL:  You will have prepared one to two songs that you are working on in class for this event.  This will be for a grade. This will not be an open to the public recital.

FINAL RECITAL:  will be one day during the last two weeks of classes. You will perform your mastered pieces for classmates and your invited friends.  Your performance is required to satisfy course expectations. Please arrange to be available.

ATTENDANCE AT LESSONS AND PERFORMANCE SEMINARS is absolutely necessary.  Absences and tardiness, whether “excused or unexcused” will affect your grade.  You may audit the course if you expect to miss or be late frequently.

MISSED LESSONS will NOT be rescheduled.  Before canceling a lesson, please try to switch with another student’s time and let me know about the switch.

8.   METHODS OF INSTRUCTION:
To be successful in this course, students are expected to participate in discussions, readings, in-class writing, and peer review activities. The instructor may assign point values to such activities.

9.   ACADEMIC INTEGRITY:
The very nature of higher education requires that students adhere to accepted standards of academic integrity. Therefore, Pueblo Community College has adopted a policy of academic conduct as described in the Student Handbook. Violation of academic integrity may be defined to include the following: cheating, plagiarism, falsification and fabrication, abuse of academic materials, complicity in academic dishonesty, and personal misrepresentation. It is the student’s responsibility to be aware of the behaviors that constitute academic dishonesty.
