6B Pencil, crayons, China Marker (black), Flair felt tip pen, kneaded Eraser, Prismacolor color pencils, Scissors, charcoal, fixative, large all purpose sketch pad, and 3 sheets Canson Miteintes paper.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course is a study of expressive drawing techniques and development of individual expressive style.

COURSE GOAL:
Upon completion of this course the student will have a portfolio consisting their best work in the form of eight (minimum) drawings which demonstrate a minimum of five mediums/ techniques which are matted and/or framed according to department standards.
6. COURSE OBJECTIVES:
By the end of the course, students will
(A) Demonstrate rendering competencies through the usage of various approaches and mediums in drawing.
(B) Identify and use the plastic elements of composition such as placement, balance, line, value, form, repetition, texture and overlap.
(C) Identify and describe a variety of drawing Medias and their usage
(D) Experiment with a variety of drawing materials, and analyze the expressive potential of the drawing materials being used.
(E) Evaluate the aesthetics of various approaches to drawing.
(F) Develop a personal approach towards drawing imagery and self-expression and utilize drawing skills as a creative means of self-expression and enjoyment.

EVALUATION PROCEDURES:
Drawing II is a studio class, which emphasizes mastery of expressive drawing skills, techniques, and media. The class is divided into 8 modules and the final. At the end of each module, there will be a mastery test, which will be worth 10% of the overall grade. If a student is not satisfied with the grade received on a mastery test, the student may retake that material on his own time during the course of the semester and the higher of the two grades will be accepted. The final will be a portfolio consisting of drawings matted; mounted (and/or framed) that forms the best work by the student during the semester. The final will count 20% of the overall grade.
8 modules x 10% = 80%. Final = 20% of the course grade.
90-100%
A - Exceptional performance in all areas. Work is consistently outstanding and surpasses acceptable guidelines.
80-89%
B - Good performance standards. Work meets acceptable and frequently surpasses them.
70-79%
C - Satisfactory performance. Work meets acceptable guidelines.
60-69%
D - Poor performance, although the work occasionally meets acceptable guidelines
0-59%
F - Unacceptable work does not meet guidelines or was not handed in.
Special Remarks:
Attendance: College policy states that students may be dropped from enrollment when absent 20% of the scheduled class meetings. If enrolled from the beginning of the term, 15 hours will usually constitute 20% of a four-credit semester course which meets five hours per week. Reinstatement procedures are described in the PCC catalog.
Tardy Policy: A student who is late three times (enters classroom after the instructor has taken roll) will be charged with one full absence unless the student can provide valid reasons for one or more of these tardies.
Assignments/Missed Exams: It is the student's responsibility, whether present or absent, to obtain all material presented and to complete all course assignments. If prior arrangements are made or extenuating circumstances exist, makeup of tests may be allowed. Late homework papers will not be accepted unless those same extenuating circumstances exist. Makeup of quizzes is to be at the instructor's discretion.

Course Outline:
Module One
Pencil- figure drawing – proportions, hands, feet, and quick gesture sketches.
Module Two
Colored Pencil – Figure drawing – 2-10 minute studies use colored pencil.
Module Three
China Marker and charcoal- Gesture studies and 2-10 minute drawings.
Module Four
Pastel – Portraits and two figure drawings.
Module Five
Mixed media- self portrait – full length (full figure on newsprint rolls.
Module Six
Conte – 30 minute figure drawings and gesture studies.
Module Seven
Two hour figure drawings emphasizing proportion and composition – student’s choice of media.
Module Eight
The Portfolio- Figure studies presentation.
Notice: this class is a PCC hybrid instruction course which will require a minimum of 30 minutes on webCT for online lectures per class period.
