Vista I: Going Online in the Classroom(BasicLevel)

Audience: Faculty, staff, teaching assistants

Prerequisites: None
Note: Instructors teaching a full online course or Hybrid course must complete this workshop before they can teach those courses.  Instructors may also complete the full online Vista training course to meet these requirements.
 
Description: Make your traditional courses more dynamic by using Blackboard Vista. Vista’s flexibility allows instructors to build online content to support their teaching style and methods. This workshop is designed to get you up and running in Vista.  Bring your syllabus and course notes and you will learn how to add them into Vista. This workshop is a requirement for faculty wanting to use Vista in the classroom. The following topics are covered in this training: Access your course in Vista Add a header to your course Add tools to the Course Toolbar Manage Course Files Effectively organize various types of content (Folders vs. Learning Module) Post your syllabus, readings, and lecture files (including PowerPoint files) Create links to web sites, documents, videos, etc. Use the Vista Calendar to schedule tasks and events Use the Vista Grade book to work with the student roster and add grades Use Vista Mail to neatly organize course-related email Post announcements to the whole class

Description: Are you ready to take your Vista classes to the next level?  This workshop takes a closer look at a few of Vista’s more advanced features. In this hands-on session, you will learn how to: Use the Grading Forms tool to create grading Rubrics for assignments Create online assessments, including: Graded quizzes Practice self-tests Anonymous surveys Customize page layouts and colors Move and edit course components using the Power View Create online groups or teams to personalize instruction in Vista Use Vista’s Reports and Tracking utility Control the release of course components by date, student, group, and Grade book criteria Manipulate the Vista Grade book, including how to: Export/import grades to/from a spreadsheet Calculate grades based on data from other grade columns Create discussion topics to stimulate student collaboration online, Including: Threaded Discussion Creating and managing student Blogs Creating and managing student Journals

Description: Get your students to study in spite of themselves.  Have you tried to create an interactive game like Jeopardy for class reviews, or tried using a pre-made crossword puzzle that you can’t change?  This hands-on workshop will teach you how to use StudyMate to create puzzles, crosswords, and 10 other types of interactive study games. In this hands-on session, you will learn how to:  Navigate the StudyMate software Convert existing questions into the StudyMate question format Identify all the StudyMate games Create a link from StudyMate to your Vista course Setup study games in your Vista course Save the study games as interactive flash files
