History of the Health Sciences Annex

This building was the site of the former Southern Colorado MRI Center. It is thought to have been a Limited Partnership between the two Radiologist groups, St. Mary-Corwin and Parkview Hospitals, and the fifth entity was a group of Neurologists in town. Construction was completed and the center opened in late summer-early fall of 1989.

The partners were looking for a site to build the center that was geographically between the two hospitals. A building was constructed in the vacant field behind the Health Building that PCC students could use as a clinical MRI training site. The State leased the land to the partnership for a very nominal fee for 7-1/2 years with an option to renew for another 7-1/2, and with the provision that if the partnership was dissolved, the building reverted to the State. In 1996, PCC programs that were interested in the building were asked to present their case to the administration.  The Radiologic Technology Program moved into the building in September of 1996. The Toshiba Corporation donated the x-ray machine, one that they had replaced at Children's Hospital in Denver. That was installed and put into use in January of 1998.
