Bequests

Leave your legacy by making a gift in your Will to the College Foundation.  A bequest is one of the simplest ways to remember those you care about the most.

Retirement Plan Assets

Retirement plan assets can be the most heavily taxed of all your assets if left to heirs.  Following your death, these assets may, in fact generate income and subject family members to both income and estate taxes.  In some situations, there is an option that will let you better provide for your family while also meeting your charitable goals.

Pension Protection Act
The Pension Protection Act signed into law in 2006 by President Bush allows tax-free contributions over $250 from traditional Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs) to charitable organizations.

In order to qualify,

  • the donor must be at least 70 1/2 years of age
  • a donation must be greater than $250 but cannot exceed $100,000 annually
  • the donation must be transfered directly from the IRA account to the charity in order to qualify for the tax-free incentive, and
  • donations must be made in a timely manner (check with the various financial institutions)

The tax-free donations cannot be claimed as a charitable donation on your federal income taxes because the amount will not be included in your adjusted gross income.

For further information you may contact the Foundation at 719-549-3303 as well as your tax preparer and your IRA financial institution.

Gifts of Cash

It is the simplest way to give; however, you can deduct a cash gift for income tax purposes only in the year in which you contribute it.   Your cash gifts are deductible up to 50 percent of your adjusted gross income for the taxable year with any excess deductible over the next five years.

Gifts of Securities/Stock

Stock - whether or not publicly traded - can also be used as a charitable gift and still allow you to maintain a controlling position.

Endowments

If you want to provide permanent financial support for the programs and services of our organization, consider an endowment.  Endowments are the springboards from which charitable organizations start new and better programs.  An endowment is truly a way to make your philanthropic vision and gift last forever.  Establishing an endowment fund not only offers ongoing support for our charitable organization, it also provides tax benefits and a public memorial for the donor.

Room Sponsorship/Donor Wall

If leaving your family's name as a legacy to the College interests you, a room sponsorship or the new Donor Wall art sculptured by Jean Latka provides a unique and very popular recognition.

Enterprise Zone

Your cash contribution to the Foundation of $250 or more allows you a 25% Colorado Tax Credit.

As you evaluate your current gifting and estate plans, please keep the Pueblo Community College Foundation at the forefront.  It is an opportunity to make a major impact on the lives of current and future students - tomorrow's community leaders.  Because gifting is an important and personally-rewarding practice, we offer you our assistance as you proceed with your plans.

Our Foundation promise is that we will strive to accomplish your wishes in a personal and professional manner.  In many cases, the procedure may be as simple as completing a few documents.  In all circumstances, we encourage you to involve your attorney and/or accountant in the process.

We invite you to call and arrange a tour of our facilities in Pueblo, Canon City or Durango, Colorado.  We can provide you with additional information and answer any questions you may have at that time.

Child Care Tax Credit

A monetary contribution to promote child care allows you to claim an income tax credit of the total contribution on your State tax return.  Call the Foundation office at (719) 549-3303 for more information.

Tax Free Roll-Over

The Pension Protection Act allows individuals older than 70 1/2 to make tax-free roll-over distributions from either traditional or Roth IRA's up to $100,000.  The donation to be made directly to a qualified public charity and the donation must be completed by January 1, 2008.  Contact your retirmenet plan administrator for details.
