Pension Protection Act
The Pension Protection Act signed into law in 2006 by President Bush allows tax-free contributions over $250 from traditional Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs) to charitable organizations.
In order to qualify,
-
the donor must be at least 70 1/2 years of age
-
a donation must be greater than $250 but cannot exceed $100,000 annually
-
the donation must be transfered directly from the IRA account to the charity in order to qualify for the tax-free incentive, and
-
donations must be made in a timely manner (check with the various financial institutions)
The tax-free donations cannot be claimed as a charitable donation on your federal income taxes because the amount will not be included in your adjusted gross income.
