Purpose Statement:

 

This full-time position reports to the Department Chair of Cosmetology for academic matters and the Dean of Operations for SCCC West for onsite daily supervision.  The position serves as the 1.0 faculty/coordinator for the Cosmetology Department. Responsibilities include communication, curriculum, assessment of student learning, and budget/equipment for the assigned area. This individual is responsible for providing instruction in accordance with approved curriculum guidelines, maintaining standards required by state regulations.  Specific professional responsibilities and faculty evaluation criteria are outlined in PCC’s Faculty Compensation and Evaluation Plan.

Teaches courses as assigned within faculty workload guidelines including evening and weekend offerings. Reviews and updates syllabi, lectures, and lab/exercises/tests in accordance to departmental standards.

Quality course delivery to students.

Works cooperatively with other full-time faculty, supervises part-time instructors and provides training and general supervision within the department.

Reinforces team approach and calibration among faculty for grading purposes

With Department Chair guidance, coordinates the development and revision of curriculum, develops and schedules new course offerings and gives input on program expansion.

Quality program delivery and development.

Serves as faculty advisor for potential students and students currently enrolled in the program..  Coordinates the program application process at SCCC West with department chair oversight

Ensure that all student have clear understanding of program requirements and current Cosmetology students have effective progression in program.

Responsible for ensuring that the Cosmetology Department has an appropriate inventory control program as well as ensuring that adequate equipment and supplies are available for classes.

Ensure safety and appropriate supplies are maintained for student success.

Participates in program promotional and recruitment activities at both the secondary and postsecondary level.

Public awareness of SCCC West Cosmetology Program to adequate enrollment

Assist the department chair with the following: establishment of program goals and objectives, development of departmental courses, curriculum review, course schedules, catalog revisions, graduation planning sheets, coordination of advisory committee meetings, and selection and hiring of program instructors..

Quality program delivery and development.

Assist in establishing, implementing and analyzing assessment of student learning data to make program improvements as indicated.

Ensure student success throughout the program.

Responsible to ensure that state board of regulatory processes are followed and that the programs remain in good standing with all state polices for cosmetology.

Relationships: Frequent and specialized contacts with persons of some importance on matters demanding tact and diplomacy to secure cooperation of concurrence in a course of action.

Works internally 90% with students, faculty, and other co-workers, supervisors and hiring authorities.  Works 10% with local high schools, advisory committees and other community organizations.

Must show evidence of continuing education or professional development on current practices of cutting, coloring, and styling methods and techniques

Ability to advise, instruct, manage, motivate, and evaluate student work in a salon and classroom environment

Ability to meet deadlines and plan, prepare, and carry out lesson plans.
