Purpose Statement:

 

This position assigned to the Health Professions Division will serve as a 1.0 faculty  member in the Occupational Therapy Department.  This individual is responsible for providing student instruction in accordance with approved curriculum guidelines, maintaining required program standards for Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) and applicable state regulations as applied to the Occupational Therapy Assistant profession education in Colorado.   The Academic Fieldwork Coordinator’s responsibilities include communication, curriculum, assessment of student learning, and budget/equipment for the assigned area.  An Academic Fieldwork Coordinator is appointed at the discretion of the Program Chair and appropriate Dean with Vice President of Learning approval.  Specific professional responsibilities and faculty evaluation criteria are outlined in PCC’s Faculty Compensation and Evaluation Plan.

Teach courses as assigned within faculty workload guidelines and maintain, and update course syllabi in accordance to the accreditation and college standards.

Quality course delivery to students.

 Secure, coordinate, track and verify new and existing clinical affiliation contracts and ensure compliance with fieldwork education requirements as stated by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) Standards.

Collaborate with fieldwork clinical site educators on school/site objectives and fieldwork manuals.   

Maintain professional relationships with community sites.

Orient students to clinical sites and visit/communicate with clinical site on students’ fieldwork performance and progress.  Assess learning outcomes for improvements to the OTA program. 

Continuous  quality improvement with student and program outcomes.

Advise pre-OTA students, military OTA students and students currently enrolled in the program.  Assist in the application process for potential OTA students. 

Ensure that all student have clear understanding of program requirements and current OTA students have effective progression in program.

Assist the department chair with the following:  establishment of program goals and objectives, development of departmental courses, curriculum review, course schedules, catalog revisions, graduation planning sheets, coordination of advisory committee meetings, and selection and hiring of program instructors.

Assist in program/department reviews, revisions, and regional/national self-studies for accreditation.  Assist the department chair to ensure program compliance with both state and national accreditation standards.

Compliance with all regional and National accreditation standards.

Assist in establishing, implementing and analyzing assessment of student learning data to make program improvements as indicated.

Ensure student success throughout the program.

Assist in ordering and allocation of department supplies/equipment and in the coordination of repair and replacement of tools and equipment.  Enforce safety procedures in the use of department supplies, equipment, and facilities.

Ensure safety and appropriate supplies are maintained for student success.

Other duties as assigned to include but not limited to  participation in regional/state activities and committees as appropriate.

Relationships: Frequent and specialized contacts with persons of some importance on matters demanding tact and diplomacy to secure cooperation of concurrence in a course of action.

Works internally 85% with students, faculty, APA co-workers, supervisors and hiring authorities.  Works externally 15% with Fieldwork educators and community site used for student clinical.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications

With commitment to enter Bachelors program within 6 months of hire.

Experience:

 

 

Minimum 2 year experience within the OT field

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Must be a member of the American Occupational Therapy Association and the State organization (OTAC).

Ability to complete  accurate & in-scope delivery within establish time constraints & expectations

Willingness to attend meetings, training sessions, or other related functions

Ability to work as part of a team through the use of good written & oral communication

Entry-level computer skills

Commitment to working with a diverse population

Active participation in community programs including civic, charity, or professional organizations.
