GENERAL SUMMARY

 

Provides classroom or related instruction under the supervision of the department chairperson.  Faculty member plans and provides student instruction in accordance with approved curriculum guidelines and required program standards.  Faculty assists in developing, revising, and implementing approved psychology and related fields curricula; contributes to the enhancement of the learning experiences of all students – males and females, minorities, and students with special learning needs; assists in departmental/divisional duties, including but not limited to advising, counseling, student recruitment/placement, inventory control, procurement of supplies, and other duties as assigned.

 

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

1.                  Assists in the implementation of the approved program curriculum; knowledgeable of program accreditation standards, and strives to meet those standards with available resources.

2.                  Assists in the program recruitment process, as appropriate.

3.                  Insures that adequate supervision is provided to students under instructor’s assignment.

4.                  Supervises and enforces appropriate safety procedures for laboratories and other environments, facilities, and operations which are a part of the program.

5.                  Provides adequate preparation of the course material used in assigned courses and utilizes the approved text.

6.                  Teaches courses as assigned within faculty work load guidelines.

7.                  Assists Department Chairperson with program operations, scheduling, working as a team member in the department, and other miscellaneous assignments, such as assisting with or leading student clubs.

8.                  Maintains regularly scheduled hours (a minimum of five per week) for consultation or advisement with students.

9.                  Maintains a work schedule as agreed upon by the supervisor and in concert with the state faculty work load policy (at least a forty-hour work week with a minimum of 30 hours on campus which can include coop or other off campus assignments).

10.              Is available for duty during orientation, advising, and registration periods during the academic year.

11.              Is encouraged to participate in college committee assignments, but shall not be required to serve on more than two college standing committees and/or boards per academic year.

12.              Attends all regularly scheduled department, division, or college meetings unless these meetings conflict with a scheduled class or unless the faculty member is excused by the Chairperson or the Dean.

13.              Meets all regularly scheduled classes unless the class has been canceled or rescheduled by or with the permission of the Chairperson.

14.              Serves as a substitute within the program for absent colleagues for short-term absences.

15.              Assists Student Services with information on potential job positions, student placement, and student transfer.

16.              Carries out such assignments as may be directed by the supervisor or are transmitted by the supervisor from higher authority.

17.              Responsible for adhering to all laws, policies, procedures, rules and regulations which govern and affect the College.  This includes the Fiscal Rules of the State of Colorado.

18.              Assists in Accountability Progress Reports, Assessment of student learning projects, program reviews, and evaluation processes required by internal-external sources.

19.              Assists with program advisory committee meetings and activities.

20.              Assists with training of part-time instructors and with the preparation of materials for them.

21.              Other assigned duties as defined by department chair or dean.

 

OUALIFlCATIONS

 

Minimum:

Master’s degree in Psychology or related field required; ability to teach Psychology at the post-secondary level; willingness to teach a variety of Psychology courses; commitment to working with a diverse population; commitment to working as a team member.

Preferred:   Experience teaching upper level courses at the post-secondary level; full-time teaching experience in a community college in psychology; experience working with faculty at the post-secondary level; experience working with committees in higher education; and experience working with curriculum development.

 

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT

Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check as a condition of hire.

Starting Salary Range:   $33,000 + dependent upon position, experience, education & funding
