Purpose Statement:

 

Limited faculty position for Pueblo Community College’s Hospitality Program, instructing in Culinary Arts lab classes. This position provides laboratory and related instruction in the Culinary Arts program under the supervision of the Department Chair. The faculty person will be expected to emphasize line cooking and center of the plate instruction as students prepare dishes for customer service in the student operated dining room.

Teach courses as assigned within faculty workload guidelines, ensuring that adequate supervision is provided to students.

Documentation of student learning through a variety of assessment procedures.

Assist in developing, revising, and implementing the approved curriculum.

Syllabi and curriculum revisions will meet current learning needs of students.

Provide adequate preparation of the course material used in assigned courses and utilize the approved text.

Well developed lesson plans will be evidenced and used

Assist with student advising, counseling, assessment, recruitment, and placement.

Student registration process will be enhanced within department, resulting in retention and industry placement.

Supervise and enforce appropriate safety procedures for laboratories and other environments, facilities, and operations which are a part of the program.

Any lab related incidents will be adequately handled and reported.

Attend all regularly scheduled department, division, or college meetings unless these meetings conflict with a scheduled class or unless the faculty member is excused by the Chair or the appropriate Vice President.

Attendance at scheduled meetings will be documented

Assist with program advisory committee meetings and activities.

Minutes of meetings will reflect preparation for and attendance at advisory meetings.

Maintain inventory of supplies, equipment, and other materials.

Inventories will be submitted to department chair on a regular basis, resulting in efficient purchasing activities.

Other duties as assigned or required.

Evidence of acceptance of assignments from department chair.

ALL WORK MUST BE COMPLETED IN COMPLIANCE WITH SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

 

Relationships: Frequent and specialized contacts with persons of some importance on matters demanding tact and diplomacy to secure cooperation of concurrence in a course of action.

Must serve as a key member of the Culinary Arts/Hospitality Studies department, the Business and Technology Division and Pueblo Community College faculty. Due to the nature of this assignment, excellent communication and cooperation must take place with other Culinary Arts instructors and customers.  In addition, because of the sharing of the kitchen facility with the Conference Services staff of PCC, tactful consideration and cooperation with their staff is very important.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications

MUST SUCCESSFULLY PASS A PRE-EMPLOYMENT DRUG SCREENING & BACKGROUND CHECK

ALL DEGREES MUST BE EARNED FROM A REGIONALLY ACCREDITED INSTITUTION

Field of Study:

Culinary Arts or Restaurant Management;

Or 60 semester credits earned within Culinary Arts or related field.

Experience:

 

 

5 years in a food production role requiring line cookery, bulk food preparation, food production scheduling, plating skills, and general kitchen management, 2 years of which should be in a supervisory or management position.

 

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

ServSafe Certified.

Menu & Recipe development

Organizational skills

Kitchen Operations

Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite to include Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Knowledge of internet for research purposes.

Culinary Arts, Hospitality Studies or Restaurant Management

 

Experience:

 

 

5 years industry experience in a management capacity; 3 or more years teaching experience in culinary arts production classes; ACF certification.

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Ability to teach lab classes in which include line cooking, garde manger, food competition, baking and pastry skills.

 

License/Certificate:

ServSafe Certified; ACF certified or meets qualifications of ACF certification

Starting Salary Range:

$33,000 + dependent on education, experience and funding.
