Placement Testing

The assessment tests are a series of tests in English, mathematics, reading, study skills and computer literacy that measure a student's knowledge of these subjects. The results of these tests are also used to place students into appropriate levels of courses. New students who are certificate- or degree-seeking, or new undeclared students taking six or more credit hours, must complete the assessment tests before enrolling in college courses.

There is a cost of $10 to take the Mathematiacs, Reading, Computer Literacy and English (Sentence Skills) assessment tests at the same time, or $5 for individual tests if they are taken at different times.

If the student has a college degree or acceptable ACT/SAT scores, the assessment test will not be required. ACT and SAT exemption will be granted if the student has an ACT score of 18 in English, 19 in math, and 17 reading, or an SAT score of 460 in math and/or 440 in English. To request exemption, students must present the ACT/SAT test results to the Office before enrolling in courses.

The Southwest Campus test schedule information is available by calling (970) 565-7496 or (970) 247-2929.

Students who require special accommodations because of a disability must notify the Office three (3) working days prior to the administration of the test.
