One of the goals of the Assessment of Student Learning Committee is to have all departments engage in Program Level Assessment. Program Level Assessments are designed to measure the effectiveness of a program to produce graduates who meet the expected standards for employment or transfer to a four year institution. During the 2006 – 2007 Academic year 14 of the 23 PCC departments did some program level assessments. In the Fall Semester and again in the Spring Semester PCC had Assessment Days scheduled for Faculty involvement. In the Fall Semester, faculty met in their individual departments to finalize assessment plans. In the Spring Semester faculty met in the Ballroom to work on their assessment reports.
The Assessment of Student Learning Committee also presented several workshops on assessment activities. Workshops were offered in Writing Rubics, processing data and in classroom assessment.
The Assessment of Student Learning committee, working with a .5 Assessment Coordinator, guides our efforts in this area. The committee serves as the assessment “nerve center,” providing direction and assistance to departments and instructors in measuring student achievement. Each summer, the committee publishes the Assessment of Student Learning Annual Report. The report presents the results of the previous year’s assessment and describes how departments plan to improve their processes in response to what they’ve learned.
