2001 Self Study

In 2001, the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Schools and Colleges reaffirmed our accreditation for another 10 years.  The basis of that re-accreditation was the 2001 institutional Self Study, prepared with the involvement and assistance of all PCC faculty and staff.

One of the highlights of the Self Study was the documentation of progress in the assessment of student learning, which had been a goal of PCC faculty and staff for several years prior to 2001.

The Higher Learning Commission also identified several areas needing more attention at PCC.  They were as follows:

  • Lack of organizational stability due to administrative changes.
  • Strategic planning and budgeting process needing more consistency and integration.
  • Low ratio of full-time to part-time faculty.
  • Need for more diversity among faculty and professional staff.
  • Need for more professional development activities for adjunct faculty, especially at branch campuses.
  • Need for more full time faculty in some programs.

These areas of concern served as a baseline for further improvements at PCC, even as we moved forward to pursue continuous quality improvement through AQIP.  Currently, we continue to focus on improvement in all of these areas and are documenting progress.
